Waxing is the longest-lasting method of semi-permanent hair removal which removes large amounts of hair at one time. New hairs will not grow back in the previously waxed area for approximately 3 to 6 weeks. When wax is warm, it enters the follicle, allowing the hair to be pulled out from the root. Areas that are repeatedly waxed often exhibit re-growth that is softer and lighter in colour and the amount re-growing will be permanently reduced.
Unwanted hair is common on the upper lip, the chin and cheeks, on the back, legs, fingers, feet and toes. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, certain medications such as hormones or steroids, or even medical abnormalities.
Waxing can be quite painful (depending on the client’s pain threshold), especially the first time it is done, and for this reason many people prefer to have it done professionally. The best antidote to the pain of waxing is to try to relax. When a client is tense, the follicle closes and the wax doesn't reach the root of the hair. Many clients find that by taking a painkiller about one hour before any waxing treatment it helps reduce any discomfort they may experience. Subsequent treatments become less painful as the hair follicles are weakened.

All of our waxing treatments are completed with the therapist applying Australian Bodycare Hand & Body lotion. This is one of the most effective after wax creams as it contains 5% Tea Tree Oil which will calm and cool the skin and help to prevent in-growing hairs.
Warm Cream Wax

This is the most popular method of waxing. Warm wax is applied to the skin, using a spatula, at a lower temperature than hot wax. The sticky properties of this product make it adhere to the hair enabling it to be is removed using paper or fabric strips. The hair and root are removed.
You should ensure that the hair to be waxed is a minimum of approximately 5mm so that the wax will take to the hair effectively. This is normally around 2 weeks post-shaving growth for most ladies or 4-6 weeks post waxing.
Hot Wax

Hot wax is applied to the hair at a comfortable temperature, whilst still in a liquid state. It dries almost instantly on the skin contracting around the hairs. When removed, the wax is flipped up at the corner and pulled off quickly by the therapist, which pulls the hair from the root thus removing it. Hot wax is not as popular as warm wax as it takes longer to complete a treatment. It is however excellent when used on shorter, coarse, strong hair and is mostly used on smaller areas such as bikini lines and under the arms.
Lavender Wax
This is a delicate, pearlised cream wax with a low operation temperature which is enriched with generous amounts of Lavender and Calendula. Both these naturally derived ingredients have superb calming and soothing effects on the skin. Coupled with this these exceptional ingredients and low temperature, we use this wax to remove hair from the face and eyebrows.
| Bikini, Brazilian and Hollywood Waxing |

Clients often get confused about what a Bikini Wax is, so here is an explanation;
Bikini Wax
This is just as it says, it covers the bikini line that would be on the outside of your knicker line.
- Brazilian Wax
Leaves a small vertical strip or triangle, just above the vaginal area. Hair is totally removed from the labia right round to the peri-anal region.
- Hollywood Wax
Hollywood style removes all of the hair, front all the way to the back. If it’s your first wax, or you haven't been recently, you should trim your hairs to about 2cm or less making sure to leave enough hair for the wax to hold onto. Waxing to remove long hairs is far more painful.
Will you be embarrassed?
This type of waxing in front of a stranger will feel a bit awkward for many first time waxers - but do keep in mind:
- You are with a professional. Like a doctor, your therapist has seen it all before and will do their best to put you at ease.
- Nobody is judging you.
- You are not the hairiest person we’ve have seen - neither is your bum the biggest.
- The whole experience is rather clinical.
- The thought of a bikini wax is enough to make most people sweat, but the more relaxed you are the easier it will be to pull the hair out. Take a deep breath and then lie back and think of a happy place!

Do not touch the area that has been waxed, except with cool dampened cotton wool/tissue. Apply Aloe Vera Gel to the newly waxed area, this will not only cool, but moisturise and soothe at the same time, a little stinging may occur at first as the pores are newly opened but this will die down after a few seconds.
After your treatment, the skin may feel and look a little sore. It is normal to get the “plucked chicken” look after a waxing. This usually dies down after a few hours but it can take a day or two after your first few treatments or if you have sensitive skin. If you are going on holiday it is best to be waxed at least a 3 or 4 days before you go.

- After 24 hours, exfoliate regularly. In-growing hair follicles are the main problem after a wax and can be difficult to prevent due to the random direction of hair growth. Regular exfoliation will definitely help and applying a tea-tree oil or cream can help reduce redness and inflammation from in-growing hair follicles. Do apply antiseptic cream to treated areas 3 times in the 24 hours following treatment.
- Do – if your skin feels hot after treatment, bathe with a cold salt water solution regularly in the hours following treatment. This reduces inflammation and speeds up the healing process. (Add half a teaspoon of salt to one cup of boiling water and chill).
- Do – apply sun block daily to prevent sunlight from interfering with the healing process for 2–3 days following treatment.
- Do – wear loose clothing.
- Do Not – expose the skin to sun, sunlight or sun beds for 48 hours.
- Do Not – use a steam room, sauna or any heat treatment for 24 hours.
- Do Not – have a hot bath or shower for 24 hours.
- Do Not – swim in chlorinated water for 24 hours.
- Do Not – do aerobics or any exercise for 24 hours.
- Do Not – apply any heat or friction to the skin whatsoever.
- Do Not – apply any moisturisers or body lotions, other than those recommended by your therapist for 24 hours.
- Do Not – apply body sprays or deodorants or perfume for 24 hours.
- Do Not – apply talc, make up or false tan until any redness disappears.
- Do Not – wear tights, leggings, or tight fitting clothing for 24 hours.
- Do Not – massage the area for 24 hours.
For more than a thousand years, this alternative natural method has been used, removing the entire hair as well as the bulb and leaving the skin soft, healthy and smooth for weeks. Sugar, water and lemon juice are cooked together to produce a caramel.
‘The treatment’ is comfortable and one of the least painful ways of removing unwanted face and body hair, because the sugar sticks to the hair and not the skin, the hairs are pulled cleanly from the roots without bruising the surrounding area. Gentle removal slows down hair growth and re-growth is finer, more sparse and lighter in colour. Over a period of time, regular treatment results in a gradual diminishment of hair.
Sugaring is particularly suitable for sensitive skin types; both young and older clients can be treated safely. Those suffering from diabetes or varicose veins can be treated, as the sugar is applied warm and then removed gently. Dry and dead skin cells are removed by the process, leaving the skin healthy, soft and smooth which can improve dry skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.
The benefits of Sugaring are:
- As it is a water-soluble, it is a very clean product to work with
- The product uses only natural ingredients
- It can be used at very low temperatures
- The sugar sticks to hair not skin
